“I was preparing to retire and move to Tennessee when God placed the Hangar in my path. After some time—and even a heart surgery—I felt God clearly calling me to work with the kids here. I brought my tools, gathered donations, and together we’ve built so much in a short time. Being able to teach young people about Christ and working with their hands brings me great joy. I’m grateful to support Hangar, serve alongside other volunteers, and see students grow—including former students now volunteering themselves. God has truly placed me here for a reason. God bless the Hangar and everyone who makes it such a special place for our youth.”

“I knew Mr. Dan for about a year before coming to volunteer in the art room on Tuesdays. It started off as a once a week thing that I looked forward to, and it also helped pull me out of depression which I deal with on and off. From there I realized the students really needed someone who could understand them and just show up when others do not. I always say God has a cool sense of humor because that is when my past started to make sense. I had quite an emotionally unstable childhood which meant I had to grow up quick and read the room before learning my abc’s. All these things that I had once gone through were made into something good because I could relate to the students on a different level. I get what it feels like to not have a safe place to go after school, so to give others a chance to just exhale is a win! Being in the art room, developing Hangar’s social media, plus much more has given me a new sense of confidence. This can then be poured back into the students to make Hangar even more positive and accepting!”
